IIP Ahmedabad centre
Background:
Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) is an autonomous body under the
administrative control of Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce &
Industry, Government of India. The Institute, headquartered at Mumbai, has five
regional centres at Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai and Ahmedabad to carter
to the needs of the packaging industry of the country. The major activities of
the Institute are – Education & Training, Research & Development,
Testing & Certification, and Consultancy & Projects.
The Indian Institute of
Packaging (IIP) established its fifth regional centre in Ahmedabad to serve the
packaging needs of industries in Gujarat. Initially, in September 2016, the
Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) allocated the first floor of
its Common Facility Centre (CFC) building at Apparel Park, Khokhra, to IIP on a
three-year lease as a temporary arrangement. In June 2018, GIDC extended this
allocation to the entire CFC building on a 30-year lease, enabling IIP to offer
comprehensive services in testing, training, and certification in packaging. The
facility encompasses a total area of 6,855 square meters, with a built-up area
of 6,106 square meters.
IIP Ahmedabad provides various
services, including testing of packaging materials, consultancy, and UN
certification for packaging used in the transport of hazardous goods. The
centre is equipped with modern infrastructure, laboratory equipment, and
training facilities to support these activities. Additionally, it offers
short-term training programs aimed at enhancing the skills of professionals in
the packaging industry.
